EAT YOUR KIMCHI STORY:how foreigners with nothing become the most successful youtubers In Korea and more!

Hi, guys!

Remember I told you while ago about  project called «Incredible success stories  project»? Guess what! Today is gonna be the first success story and this is probably my favorite one. So, I will try to keep it as short as it possible but as the same time try to make it super inspirational and motivational.
Today`s story is gonna be about one of  my  favorite youtube blogger-couples ever-Simon and Martina- who together form EAT YOUR KIMCHI.

Simon and Martina-WHO THEY ARE?
Simon and Martina are owners of Eat Your Kimchi label which includes 3 youtube channels with 520,000+, 260,000+ and 135,000+ subscribers respectively, they have made over 1000videos(!!!OMG, when I saw the amount of their video for the first time my first though was «OMG! Are they even a humans?lol ») which were watched over 200,000,000times! They have their own website eatyourkimchi.com,studio,EYK crew , they interviewed many korean and asian celebrities and I am really proud to say that they are going to be coffee shop owners very soon! Such a great resume, is not it? But their most amazing achievement  is…their marriage! I `ve never seen such lovely couple in my entire life.
Get inspired? Want to know the full story? Give me your 10 precious minutes and i`m gonna tell you!

The beginning

Simon and Martina met in Toronto`s University where they came to get their school teacher degree. They fall in love , get married, i`m not gonna spend to much time telling you their love story, you can watch it here
.  After year of marriage life in tiny apartment  in Toronto they saw presentation about teaching in Korea and made pretty brave and a little bit crazy decision- move to Korea and try to build  life there. Just imagine feelings of person who leaves home city, family, friend and move to place where he/she knows almost nobody, place where making friend is kind of difficult for foreigners. I guess it was pretty scary.

Second life
Simon and Martina were teaching in one of Seul`s school for a bit and at the same time from their first day in Korea they start doing little videos about their lifes  for their friend and families who knew very few about living in not big Asian country called South Korea.

Magic begins
This is part that married couple struggle to explain. So, what have happened ? Totally unexpectedly people start watching their videos and leaving positive feedbacks and guys got some subscribers and their amount  starts grow month by month. Of course, they were completely surprised. They have started blogging in May of 2008 and after of doing it for couple of years they thoght that maybe blogging can be their full time job?

Tough times
Simon and Martina did not like the idea of being separate all the time at work so working together was their dream job. But how they supposed to find way to make it happens?
Unfortunately, Simon had …let say.. not great teaching experience at his work place so he had thoughts of quitting his job and starting developing their site which was not making money for first TWO YEARS but he saw potential in it and gave it a chance. So……for couple of months they were living only on Martina`s salary which disappeared at the end of every single month because of bills and rent payments. I guess it was really psychologically hard for Simon to be in position where you are not making proper money and can’t support your family for a while because men are told from early childhood that they are the one who must bring food to home , you know what I mean.

Risky decision
At the end of the year site and youtube was making enough money to let Martina quit her job as well even she loved it very much. It`s when they officially became full time content creators. It sounds so cool! I can say as a youtuber also that becoming full time content creator is pretty risky decision because your income depends from your viewers who sometimes are very unstable: today they love and cry when meet you in real life but tomorrow they will probably barely remember your name. Of course, not all of them but I hope you get my idea.

Huge passion gives results
Somebody said to me that here is no way that huge passion to your job will not give results. Simon and Martina`s story is proof for it. In 2012 Martina and Simon asked their viewers  to help them make their dream come true: registration eatyourkimchi as a business and renting studio in Seul which is really expensive for foreigners so they asked their viewers for some help. They thought 4000$ is maximum they can raise. But they were wrong. Viewers from all over the world came together and donated over 113000$ only in a month! Unbelievable! Using that money they not only register EYK as a business but also hired two more people in their crew!

This year KIA company gave them wonderful opportunity: their provided them nice KIA car and designed it with special eyk logotypes.

Couple months ago Simon and Martina surprised their fan by telling them about their new project: coffee shop which they open with another youtubers and blogger called «Talktomekorean»

But their main the most important achievement is something even bigger that having over half a million subscribers of having their own studio and coffee shop. It is ….their relationship! I have never seen such harmonious and happy couple.
What EYK story`s tells us? Sometimes pursuing the dream may be a bit risky: don’t be afraid of taking risk. Don’t forget that successful career can`t replace happiness of having good relationship. Who said that happy relationship and successful career cant exist together in one life?!

EYK 2008
Hope i liked it. See you soon!
